Pacquiao to call on Aquino on Monday-A A +A
Sunday, April 20, 2014
BOXING champ Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao is set to call on President Benigno Aquino III on Monday.
In the President's schedule sent to reporters, the President will meet Pacquiao at the Music Room in Malacañang at 1 p.m.
Pacquiao, who arrived last Friday from the United States, will meet Aquino after his victory over American boxer Timothy Bradley in a rematch held last week in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In a unanimous decision of 116-112, 116-112, 118-110, the Filipino boxing icon reclaimed the WBO welterweight belt he lost to Bradley in a controversial decision in 2012 when they first faced each other on the ring.
It was not yet sure if Pacquiao will raise the tax issue against him by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) during his meeting with the President.
The BIR has been trying to collect over P2 billion in taxes, including penalties, from Pacquiao's earnings in his previous fights in the United States.
The lawmaker questioned this tax assessment before the Court of Tax Appeals. (SDR/Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
