MALACANANG welcomed on Tuesday the Supreme Court's (SC) decision extending indefinitely the temporary restraining order (TRO) on Manila Electric Company's (Meralco) move to raise power rate by P4.15 per kilowatt hour.

"That's certainly something that we will welcome considering that this is now the summertime, and there’s an increased demand in power consumption," said Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda in a press briefing.

"So the extension of the TRO will definitely be something that will be welcomed by our countrymen," he added.

Militant lawmakers under Makabayan bloc asked the SC to extend the TRO against Meralco's power rate increase. (SDR/Sunnex)
