AS OF 10:45 p.m. Wednesday (April 23), only six more passengers of Etihad Airways flight EY0424 have not yet been contacted for the needed screening for the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus (MERS-CoV).

In a statement, the Department of Health (DOH) said the six passengers have not yet coordinated with the agency for free “nose-throat-swab” screening.

These passengers are: Christopher Abellana, Dianah Dayrit, Maritess Navarro, Aileen Rivera, Mylene Robante and Liystely Sorolla.

“Again we are appealing to the passengers to cooperate with the DOH to prevent the spread of MERS-CoV,” the DOH noted.

“Go to the DOH nearest hospital or call DOH hotlines: 711-1001; 711-1002; 0922-884-1564; 0920-949-8419; 09157725621,” it further said.

Symptoms of MERS-CoV include fever, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhea, renal (kidney) failure although in some cases, symptoms are not present. Incubation period of MERS-CoV takes 14 days.

To prevent MERS-CoV from spreading, the DOH advised proper hand-washing, wearing of medical masks and sneezing into a sleeve, flexed elbow or tissue paper that should be properly disposed of after use.

It is also important to maintain a strong immune system by getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water, exercise and eating nutritious food.

Most importantly, a person suspected to be affected with the virus should undergo laboratory tests. (PNA)
