A HOTEL in front of the United States embassy in Manila was evacuated Monday after a box containing a potential bomb was found in one of its rooms, minutes before US President Barack Obama arrived in country, police said.

A radio report said Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams were dispatched to the Bayview Park Hotel in Alhambra Street in Manila to check the content of a suspicious box, which was found in the 5th floor of the hotel around 1 p.m.

The EOD destroyed the box and found a digital timer and several hoses wrapped in cloth.

As of posting time, authorities continue to investigate on the incident and if it is connected with the arrival of US President.
