FOUR prisoners were killed while 10 others were wounded in a shooting incident inside the Quezon provincial jail around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

A radio report identified the fatalities as Garry Esguerra, Jose Umali Escasa, Christian Contemplacion and Manuelito Palma.

Inmates Jessy Magpantay, Nelson Esculiar, Adolfo De Mesa, Ricky Ramos, Jose Gonzales, Alberto Perez, Ronel Falcon, Francis Kabutihan, Michael Antago and Raymond Abergo sustained injuries and were brought to Quezon Medical Center for treatment.

Police report said the shooting incident started when the inmates conducted a protest rally condemning the transfer of another prisoner.

The detainees allegedly attacked the jail guards and police officers using several improvised weapons, forcing jail authorities to resist and use their firearms against the prisoners. (Sunnex)
