ON THE heels of the dismissal of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, the government of the Philippines is hoping that Thailand will be able to withstand the expected new wave of political unrest there.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said they are hoping that peace will be maintained in the country despite the removal of Shinawatra and her allied officials.

"In this regard, as a fellow member of Asean, the Philippines hopes that the people of Thailand will find an early resolution to the political situation in a manner that upholds the rule of law and preserves peace and harmony throughout the Kingdom," said the DFA.

Earlier, Thailand's Constitutional Court dismissed Shinawatra from office over her abuse of power.

The decision is expected to spur a new set of political turmoil in the country, which has repeatedly hounded Thailand in almost a decade now.

Last month, the DFA already called on Filipinos in Thailand to maintain extra vigilance in the country despite the lowering of the Crisis Alert Level from 2 to 1.

"The Philippine Embassy advises Filipinos with essential travel plans to, and those residing in Bangkok and other parts of Thailand, to exercise extra vigilance and observe safety precautions," said the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok.

It had said that Filipinos must avoid large crowds and demonstrations while also refraining from participating and/or showing support in any form to any of the parties.

Filipino nationals were also urged to always be vigilant and closely monitor developments in the political situation of Thailand.

Finally, it said concerned individuals should not hesitate to contact the Embassy in any case of emergency. (HDT/Sunnex)
