Jordanian killed, girlfriend hurt in ambush

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A Jordanian was killed while his girlfriend was wounded in an ambush in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Monday.

The incident took place around 5:42 p.m. Sunday at Mucas Bridge in the village of Kayok, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte.

Slain was Mohammad Shaker Hashim Shaker Khalil, 56, a Jordanian who is temporarily residing in Barangay Poblacion, Salug in the same province.

Wounded was Menbie Villamil, 19, a resident of Pucay village, Salug.

Senior Police Officer 3 Abner Silaga said that based on investigation, the victims were aboard a motorcycle traveling from Salug to Liloy town when they were fired upon by unidentified gunmen upon reaching Mucas Bridge in Barangay Kayok.

Silaga said that Khalil was declared dead on arrival at the Liloy District Integrated Health Hospital.

The Jordanian succumbed to 10 gunshot wounds, he said.

Villamil, on the other hand, sustained four gunshot wounds. She was later transferred to the Zamboanga Del Norte Medical Center in Dipolog City for treatment.

Investigation continues to establish the motive of the incident and identify the gunmen, Silaga said. (Sunnex)
