Love triangle eyed in Enzo Pastor slay

THE Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is looking into love-triangle as the possible motive for the killing of car racer Ferdinand "Enzo" Pastor, a police official said Wednesday.

In a media briefing, QCPD criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDG) chief Rodel Marcelo said the alleged mastermind Domingo De Guzman and his hired gun, Police Officer 2 Edgar Angel, were arrested.

UN panel: Crimes against humanity spread in Syria

GENEVA -- The independent UN commission on Syrian war crimes said the Islamic State group has committed crimes against humanity with attacks on civilians in two provinces in the country.

The commission said the widespread and systematic killings by Islamic State, which now controls a swath of north and eastern Syria, occurred both in the northern province of Aleppo and in the northeastern region of Raqqa, a stronghold of the group.

No questions on pending cases in Sereno presser

In an advisory, the SC Public Information Office (PIO) said Wednesday Sereno is not "at liberty" to answer questions on pending cases or in the "reasonably near future" and matters that are under deliberation.

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT ZONE -- Filipino peacekeepers set to return home from Ebola-hit Liberia must undergo a 30-day observation period, said the Department of Health (DOH).

DOH spokesperson Dr. Lyndon Lee Suy said there remains the need for them to be placed under close observation from the doctors of the Philippine National Police (PNP) or Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Road inside Capitol compound open for traffic starting Aug. 30

THE Gov. M. Rosa Street inside the Cebu Capitol compound will be open to vehicular traffic starting 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, August 30, said Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora.

The road was opened to provide an alternative route for vehicles coming from N. Escario St. to M. Velez St., as road improvement and widening have been ongoing at a portion of Don Gil Garcia St. beside the Capitol in Cebu City.

Santiago considers running for President in 2016

SENATOR Miriam Defensor Santiago said Wednesday that she will run for president in 2016 if there are enough "like-minded" supporters for her led by Fr. Joaquin Bernas.

In a television show last Tuesday, Fr. Bernas said that President Benigno Aquino III should no longer seek a second term and to "give Miriam (Santiago) naman a chance."

LPA exits Philippines

MANILA -- The low pressure area (LPA) lingering inside the Philippines for less than a week exited on Wednesday morning, the state weather bureau reported.

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, the LPA was spotted at 640 kilometers (km) west of Baguio City, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) posted on its website.

DBM gives nod for Cebu BRT project's funding requirement

MANILA -- The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the funding strategy of P9.48 billion for the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, an official said Wednesday.

Budget Secretary Florencio Abad said his office also issued a Forward Obligational Authority (FOA) to the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) for the project.
