SC junks shorter airtime for political ads

SUPREME Court (SC) justices have permanently stopped the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from imposing shorter airtime for political advertisements, which boost recall of candidates and profits of broadcast companies during an election year.

The SC voted unanimously on Tuesday to strike down Section 9(a) of Comelec Resolution 9615 (as amended by Comelec Resolution 9631) unconstitutional.

Palace denies influencing lawmakers in junking impeach raps vs Aquino

Gigi Reyes wants to undergo medical checkup

THE camp of lawyer Jessica Lucila "Gigi" Reyes has asked the Sandiganbayan for her to be allowed to undergo medical check-up due to a suspected head injury she sustained when she suffered an anxiety attack inside her prison cell at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

In a motion filed before the Sandiganbayan third division, Reyes' legal team sought the court's permission to allow her to undergo Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Angiogram (MRA) after she accidentally bumped her head into a wall of her detention cell when she suffered anxiety attack last August 17.

Palace completes review of draft BBL

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III's office has completed the review of the draft Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) and it will submit the document to Congress anytime from now, Malacanang said Tuesday.

Reading a statement of Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Deles, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a press briefing that the draft BBL is now undergoing final stages of refinement.

De Lima: Anti-China group behind foiled bomb attack

MANILA (3rd Update) -- A group of "misguided" individuals protesting the government's alleged weak stance in the territorial dispute with China was behind the foiled bomb attack at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, de Lima said the arrested suspects are also against the country's oligarchs led by Filipino-Chinese businessmen who control a huge chunk of the nation's wealth. The tycoons are allegedly engaged in monopolistic practices and illegal mining, according to the group.

Jennifer Lawrence requests nude pics investigation

LOS ANGELES — Jennifer Lawrence has contacted authorities to investigate who stole and posted nude images of the Oscar winner online, a publicist for the actress said.

Intimate images of the actress, who stars in "The Hunger Games" film franchise and won an Academy Award for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook," began appearing online on Sunday. Naked images purporting to be of other female stars were also posted, although the authenticity of many of the images could not be confirmed. The source of the leak was unclear.
