Palace: No mismanagement of PhilHealth-A A +A

MALACANANG denied on Wednesday that there was mismanagement of Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), prompting a group of private hospitals to plan of implementing a new scheme.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that PhilHealth regional offices have committed to fast-track the processing of payments to hospitals.
"Ang normal processing time is 60 days, but I think there has been already a continuous discussion with PHAP (Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines, Inc.)," he said in a regular press briefing in Malacanang.
He said that PhilHealth has started implementing new system, thus, there were some delays on the payment.
"So there are some birth pains, but hindi ito because of mismanagement, but nagbago ng sistema. So the PhilHealth is adjusting to the new system. But hindi naman lahat ng hospital nade-delay ang bayad," Lacierda said.
PHAP has warned of implementing a new system following PhilHealth's continuous delays in settling its obligations for members.
PHAP president Dr. Rustico Jimenez has said that private hospitals would continue to accept PhilHealth patients but would not deduct yet the part to be charged from the health insurance.
Patients should instead directly file their claims before PhilHealth, he said.
Lacierda expressed belief that private hospitals would not push with the new scheme.
"I think ang hospital naman siguro, it is imbued with public service," he said.
"There is no commitment from government not to pay. Naantala lang. But the commitment of government is to expedite the payment system and may commitment naman talaga ang gobyerno to pay what is due to the hospitals. So the government will not renege on that obligation, that’s why there has been a constant discussion with Dr. Rustico Jimenez and with some of the hospitals concerned," he added. (SDR/Sunnex)
