LTFRB approves P0.50 minimum fare hike for jeepneys-A A +A

MANILA -- The Land and Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved on Friday the P0.50 increase in minimum jeep fare sought by public utility jeepney (PUJ) operators in four Luzon regions.
LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez said that from P8, the regular fare for jeepneys in Metro Manila and Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) will be P8.50 in the first four kilometers with an additional P.10 for every succeeding kilometers.
Implementation of the new standard jeepney fare will start on June 14.
Ginez said the fare increase was thoroughly reviewed by the LTFRB and was consulted to several stakeholders, taking into consideration the PUJ operators and as well as of the general public who will be directly affected by the increase.
However, Ginez reminded the commuters that PUJ drivers were not allowed to implement the new faring system if they will not have the new fare matrix posted on their vehicles.
Ginez also said that the 20 percent fare discount for the senior citizens, students and persons with disability should still be strictly implemented. (Sunnex)
