Trough of LPA brings rains in northern, central Luzon-A A +A
Monday, June 9, 2014
MANILA -- The trough of a low pressure area (LPA) is affecting northern and central Luzon, bringing light to moderate rains over these areas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.
Pagasa weather forecaster Buddy Javier said the trough or extended clouds of LPA will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.
He said the LPA is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has a small chance to enter PAR since its moving upward towards Taiwan.
Javier said the agency has monitored another weather disturbance in the western section of extreme northern Luzon which is expected to enter the PAR anytime today.
He said based on their models the LPA has a small chance to intensify into a tropical cyclone, but will bring rains over the western section of Luzon.
Javier said if the LPA intensifies into a cyclone it will be named "Ester," the first cyclone for the month of June and the fifth for this year.
Javier said the rest of the country including Metro Manila will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms today.
In its advisory, Pagasa said light to moderate winds coming from the southwest will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and from the south to southwest over Mindanao.
The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. (PNA)
