THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has alerted its personnel in Davao Region due to possible threat to the peace and security there.

PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac said Sunday that Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II has ordered the PNP Regional Office in Davao to “beef-up” their security operations against possible infiltration of suspected members of said reported threat groups.

“We could not, however, divulge any further details of said reports received so as not to compromise ongoing security operations by both the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in these areas,” Sindac said.

Sindac said the PNP and the AFP in Davao City are conducting “aggressive foot and mobile patrols,” installing checkpoints and gun check operations in areas randomly, rigidly inspecting land, sea and air transport terminals, commercial centers, places of convergence and other vital installations to prevent possible attack.

“PNPRO in Mindanao remain on constant alert conditions to ensure their operational readiness and capabilities to respond to all possible contingencies,” he said.

“These measures are designed to harden possible soft targets of opportunity,” Sindac added.

However, Sindac said police personnel were instructed to “minimize any inconvenience to the public."

Sindac urged the public to give any information that would be of help to the police and the ongoing security operations.

“Let us not allow this to affect our lives or decide our fate,” the PNP official said. (Third Anne Peralta/Sunnex)
