Aquino admits giving Duterte ‘raw’ info on possible bomb attack in Davao-A A +A
Tuesday, July 1, 2014
PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III admitted Tuesday that he conveyed "raw" information to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte regarding his city being a possible target of terror attack.
While the information was raw, Aquino said he still relayed it to Duterte to make sure that the mayor was given all of the pertinent information to adequately prepare Davao.
"The reports stated and I emphasize...the raw report stated that this terrorist who is a bomb maker had sent a bomb or a bomb-laden vehicle to Davao City to further a terrorist attack," Aquino said in an interview in Pampanga.
It was Duterte who disclosed to the media about the terrorist threat that Aquino conveyed to him, prompting police and military to be on alert.
Duterte, as head of the Peace and Order Council for Davao City, should be made aware of pertinent information so that he has the wherewithal to adequately prepare his community for it, the President said.
Both the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines are actively determining the validity of the report and continuing operations against the known terrorist, he added.
The terrorist threat in Davao City has prompted United Kingdom to warn its citizens from traveling in Eastern Mindanao.
Aquino said UK could not be blamed for issuing a travel advisory to its nationals.
"We cannot blame the English government. I assume that they will also seek to be very extra cautious and, of course, we will appeal to them na: is the amount of caution commensurate to the threat? And at this point in time, we are winning the battle against them but it is still a battle ongoing," he said. (SDR/Sunnex)
