Friday, July 11, 2014
THE National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) announced Friday that all minimum wage earners in Region 12 or Soccsksargen are set to get P5.00 pay hikes.
According to the NWPC, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Region 12 issued Wage Order No. RB XII-18 last June 4.
"The new minimum wage rates shall apply to all minimum wage earners in the region regardless of position, designation or status, and irrespective of the method by which their wages are paid," said the NWPC.
With the new wage order, the minimum wage in the Soccsksargen region for the non-agriculture is now at P275.00 while workers in agriculture and retail/service establishments will receive P257.00 and P255.00, respectively.
The wage order also provides that, upon effectivity of the wage order, the Cost of Living Allowance (Cola) under the previous wage order, ranging from P4.00 to P6.00 shall be integrated into the basic wage.
By January 1, 2015, all minimum wage earners in the region will be receiving an additional P5.00 Cola.
To note, Cola is part of the minimum wage, but shall be excluded from the computation of wage related benefits such as overtime pay, night differential, and 13th month pay.
On the other hand, it forms part of the computation of mandatory contributions to the Social Security System (SSS), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), and Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF or Pag-ibig).
The NWPC said the latest wage order will take effect 15 days after its publication.
Meanwhile, the NWPC noted that there remain exemptions to the applicability of Wage Order No. RB XII-18.
These are: establishments with total assets with not more than P3M, and which establishments are not registered as Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBEs); distressed establishments; and establishments adversely affected by calamities such as natural and human-induced disasters.
Soccsksargen covers the cities of Cotabato, General Santos, Kidapawan, Koronadal and Tacurong; and the provinces of North Cotabato, Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat. (HDT/Sunnex)
