Aquino to address nation Monday night on ‘current issues’-A A +A
Saturday, July 12, 2014
MANILA -- President Benigno Aquino III will again appear before the national television to address the Filipino people following the Supreme Court's decision declaring parts of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) as unconstitutional.
Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said the President's national address will take place on Monday at 6 p.m. in Malacanang.
"Broadcast networks have been requested to air the President's speech on current national issues," he said in a statement.
Whenever there are pressing issues, including a strong typhoon that is expected to hit the country, the President makes a national address.
It could be recalled that a night before Super Typhoon "Yolanda" (Haiyan) was about to hit the country last November, Aquino made a national address.
The President's national address on Monday would also be done amid calls for Budget Secretary Florencio Abad to resign and following at least two impeachment complaints filed against the President in relation to the high court's ruling on DAP.
Abad, said to be the architect of DAP, submitted his resignation to Aquino last Thursday, but the President turned it down. (SDR/Sunnex)
