MANILA -- Detained model-stylist Deniece Cornejo slashed her wrist Sunday dawn to protest the dismissal of the second rape case she filed against television host/actor Vhong Navarro, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) spokesperson Chief Inspector Elizabeth Jasmin said Cornejo slashed her left wrist using a metal bottle cap around 3 a.m.

Jasmin clarified, however, that the incident was not a suicide attempt and the model’s wound was shallow, not serious and far from her pulse.

"According to her lawyer, it was intentional and a sign of protest against the Taguig City prosecutors' office junking her second rape complaint versus Navarro," she said.

Last Friday, the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office junked the second rape case Cornejo filed against the "It’s Showtime" host, citing lack of probable cause.

Cornejo claimed Navarro raped her in her condominium unit on the night of January 17.

Her first rape complaint that was dismissed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) in April stemmed from the January 22 incident, which was used as basis by Navarro to file charges against Cornejo, businessman Cedric Lee and five others for mauling and keeping him against his will.

Cornejo was detained at the PNP Anti-Transnational Crime Unit after she surrendered last May due to an arrest warrant for the serious illegal detention case being pursued by Navarro before a Taguig court.

Another court in Taguig is hearing the grave coercion case against Cornejo and her group. (Third Anne Peralta/Sunnex)
