MANILA -- The state weather bureau hoisted public storm warning signal number 1 over six provinces in Luzon and Visayas as Tropical Storm "Glenda" continues to intensify Monday.
Under signal number 1 are the provinces of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Northern Samar.
In its 5 a.m. bulletin today (Monday, July 14), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Glenda was located at 750 kilometers (km) east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 4 a.m. Monday.
The tropical storm moving in a westward direction toward Bicol-Quezon area has maximum sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 95 kph.
Pagasa said Glenda, which entered the country Sunday evening, is expected to make landfall in the province of Quezon by Wednesday.
It added that the tropical storm may exit the Philippine area of Responsibility by Thursday and will move toward China.
The weather bureau advised fishing boats and other small seacrafts not to venture out into the Eastern seaboards of Luzon and of Visayas. (NMP/Sunnex)
