Magnitude 6.1 quake jolts Davao Occidental

THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a magnitude 6.1 earthquake that jolted the province of Davao Occidental around 4 p.m. Monday.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake's epicenter was located at 106 kilometers southeast of Don Marcelino.

The following intensities were recorded:

Intensity IV - Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental
Intensity III - Glan, Sarangani; Mati City; Davao City; Don Marcelino and Malita, Davao Occidental
Intensity II - General Santos City; Digos City
Intensity I - M'lang, North Cotabato; Koronadal and Tupi, South Cotabato

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of eight kilometers.

Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected. (Sunnex)
