MANILA -- Telecommunication (Telcos) giants Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) and Smart Communications have deployed generator sets in strategic areas to keep vital facilities operating.

In a text message sent by PLDT and Smart, the Telcos said the generator sets will also help speed up restoration of normal service.

Telecommunication facilities of PLDT, Smart, and Sun Cellular in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Bicol Region are unscathed by Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun). However, widespread commercial power outages have disrupted normal services in various areas.

Though key installations of both fixed line and mobile networks have standby power, many facilities rely in varying degrees on commercial power.

Prolonged outrages will disrupt normal services once the internal batteries in equipment run out.

Telcos assured the public that they are exerting efforts to restore normal operations as soon as possible. (PNA)
