'Glenda' death toll jumps to 77 -- NDRRMC

THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), on its Saturday update, announced that the death toll for Typhoon "Glenda" nationwide has now reached 77.

In its 6 a.m. bulletin, the agency reported that five persons are still missing with the number of injured now up to 220.

Previously, fatalities for "Glenda" was placed at 64 with 103 injured.

The NDRRMC also added that 330,433 families or 1,600,298 people were affected in Ilocos, Central and Southern Luzon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas and Metro Manila.

The NDRRMC also added that areas under a state of calamity include Obando, Bulacan; Cavite; Laguna; Albay; Camarines Sur; Tigaon and Bula, Camarines Sur; Naga Cityand Samar.

Around 97,055 families or 518,764 people are being served in 1,264 evacuation centers.

Damage to property stood at PHP5,860,756,042.28, including PHP1,049,931,600 in infrastructure and PHP4,810,824,442.28 in agriculture.

The NDRRMC added that PHP10,683,944.33 in relief goods and medicines has been extended to affected families.

Some 27,874 houses were destroyed while 83,498 were damaged.

Power has been restored in Legazpi and Naga Cities, while the Luzon and Visayas grids are now interconnected.

Seventeen roads and three bridges in Cagayan Valley, Central and Southern Luzon, Bicol and Cordillera are still impassable to traffic. (PNA)
