MANILA -- Eleven inmates bolted a temporary detention cell at the Mandaluyong City Police Station Monday dawn, police said.

Mandaluyong City police director Tyrone Amasigon said Gabby Capistrano, one of the 11 detainees who escaped, was immediately recaptured while police are still hunting down the 10 other escapees.

The inmates used a small metal saw to cut through the metal bars of their detention cell, which was situated behind the police precinct.

Senior Superintendent Amasigon said the inmates escaped between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. but jail officials learned about it around 4 a.m.

"Hindi agad nakita nung mga nagbabantay kasi 'yung area na binutas nung mga pumuga ay tago at hindi basta basta makikita," he said. "Ang rehas kasi, sa loob ng CR so hindi visible sa labas. Sa likod lang ang daan nila."

Amasigon said police officers on duty during the incident were relieved.

He said the authorities are coordinating with the families of the escapees for their possible surrender. (Sunnex)
