MALACANANG was not worried even if another impeachment complaint was filed against President Benigno Aquino III.
In a regular press briefing in Malacanang, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. expressed belief that the lawmakers would consider reasons and welfare of the people in handling the impeachment complaints against the President.
"Katuwiran ang dapat na maging pangunahing batayan ng mga kinatawan. Sa kanilang pagpapasya, tiyak na isasaalang-alang nila ang saloobin at kapakanan ng mga mamamayan," he said when asked why the Palace was not worried on the impeachment raps filed against Aquino.
"Hindi maikakaila na mahalaga ang numero dito dahil sa kahuli-hulihan magbobotohan kung ipapasa o hindi ang panukalang impeachment. Ngunit naniniwala pa rin kami na katotohanan, katuwiran, at ang kapakanan ng mga mamamayan ang dapat na pairalin," he said.
Majority of the members of the House of Representatives are administration allies.
Kabataan party-list Representative Terry Ridon endorsed on Tuesday the impeachment complaint filed by youth groups against the President. This was the second complaint that a lawmaker endorsed at the House. The first complaint was endorsed on Monday by Makabayan bloc lawmakers.
The impeachment complaints against Aquino were triggered by the recent decision of the Supreme Court against the administration's Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP). The high court has ruled that parts of DAP were unconstitutional.
But Malacanang insisted that the government savings used to finance projects under DAP have benefited the country, particularly the economy. (SDR/Sunnex)
