AFTER the fatal shooting incident inside a private hospital in Cebu City on Thursday, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Intelligence Branch has reminded security agencies to be more responsible in implementing security protocols.

A 71-year-old wheelchair-bound patient shot dead his doctor inside a clinic in Sacred Heart Hospital before shooting himself in the head at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, July 24.

Dr. Cris Cecil Chan Abbu, 56, an orthopedic surgeon, was shot in the chest and arm by Wilfred Sabonsolin, a former seaman he had been treating for spinal problems.

After shooting Abbu, Sabonsolin also shot himself in the head using a caliber .380 pistol that he had kept in a small sling bag.

Chief Inspector Romeo Santander, CCPO Intelligence Branch chief, said the incident should serve as a reminder to security personnel to be strict and thorough in checking and frisking individuals who will enter the establishment they are guarding.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Medical Society (CMS) has called on the government to inspect security agencies regarding the training of their security guards.

Dr. Marlon Co, president of the CMS, said that this is not the first time that such an incident occurred in a secured and well-guarded place.

Sabonsolin’s motives for shooting the doctor are unclear, but it has been suspected that this is because of depression. (Sunnex)
