CEBU -- A century-old acacia tree fell across the national road in Sitio Katugasan, Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City early morning Saturday, July 26.

The highway is still not passable and clearing operations are ongoing as of this posting.

No one was hurt in the incident, but it damaged a tailoring shop, a refrigeration and aircon services shop and a sari-sari store.

Sun.Star Editor Ging Aledo Campaña and Sun.Star Marketing head Girlie Enriquez Veloso posted in their Facebook page photos of the fallen acacia tree:

According to Campaña's Facebook post, buses and smaller vehicles from the South are allowed to pass through a smaller road from Awayan in Poblacion 3 to Barangay Liburon to Barangay Can-Asujan to Upper Katugasan in Perrelos and exit to the national road in going to Cebu City.

Those coming from Cebu City are allowed to turn right to Upper Katugasan, same route that exits to the road leading to Gaisano Carcar in Awayan.

Last July 9, one person was injured after an acacia tree fell on a passing dump truck in Barangay Balud, San Fernando.

The incident caused heavy traffic in the area. (Sunnex)
