THE Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) is implementing a partial deployment ban in Kenya as it prohibited the sending of newly hired overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) there.

Based on POEA Governing Board Resolution 16-2014, newly hired OFWs are not allowed to be deployed to Kenya, where crisis alert level 2 has been raised by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

"The POEA Governing Board hereby resolves to impose a temporary suspension of the processing and deployment of newly-hired OFWs to Kenya," said the POEA resolution.

However, the POEA said the ban on deploying newly hired workers does not include those employed by the United Nations (UN) and its affiliate agencies.

"The UN workers in UNEP, Habitat, and other UN agencies in Kenya shall not be covered by the deployment ban of new workers," said the POEA.

Also, the POEA said it will continue to deploy returning workers to Kenya under crisis alert level 2.

"The processing and deployment of vacationing/returning workers to the said country, subject to their compliance with documentation requirements, shall be allowed," said the POEA.

It was back in July 11 when the DFA raised crisis alert Level 2 in Kenya due to the continued deterioration of the peace and order situation in the country. (HDT/Sunnex)
