A RANKING official of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Wednesday it is still not finished with its parallel probe on the fatal shooting last June 12 of international race car driver Ferdinand "Enzo" Pastor.

Emerging from a meeting with Secretary Leila de Lima and Pastor's parents at the Department of Justice (DOJ), NBI Director Virgilio Mendez said they have no concrete lead yet on the motive behind Pastor's death.

"We're still in the process of the investigation and we're still looking for some leads to ultimately give us a resolution to this killing. This case is far from over," he told reporters.

Mendez declined to comment if love triangle is one of the angles they are looking into, adding the NBI is not focusing on one motive alone.

"We're still on the process of elimination kung saan tayo tama. Mahirap talaga maghanap ng witnesses. Wala pa. But we're doing our best," he said.

Renewed interest in Pastor's case came after President Benigno Aquino III said in his State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday that authorities are "currently following a strong lead."

"Rest assured: we are seeking justice for all, and not just for a few," Aquino said.

Pastor was killed by a masked gunman on a motorcycle at the corner of Visayas Avenue and Congressional Avenue Extension in Quezon City.

He was on his way to the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga at the time of the incident.

A seven-man investigating team from the Quezon City Police District is also probing the death of Pastor, winner of this year's Asian V8 Racing Championship and the lone Filipino to join the NASCAR Whelen Euroseries Open Championship. (Sunnex)
