Pope to meet with different religious leaders at UST

POPE Francis will have a brief meeting with leaders of the various religious groups at the University of Sto. Tomas in Manila on January 18.

Fr. Carlos Reyes of the 2015 Papal Visit executive committee said that 10 leaders from various religious sects are expected to meet with the Pope to discuss about unity and other matters with regard to religious harmony.

Poe to DOTC: Stop MRT fare hike

SENATOR Grace Poe urged the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) on Monday to postpone the "unnecessary and untimely" fare hike of Metro Rail Transit (MRT) effective January 4 next year.

Poe, who led a Senate inquiry on the malfunction of MRT-3, said the fare increase would only bring "insult and injustice" to the commuters.

Binay, Poe, Roxas top poll on presidential bets

VICE President Jejomar Binay, Senator Grace Poe, and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II were chosen as top three leaders most likely to succeed President Benigno Aquino III in 2016, according to the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released on Monday.

Binay ranked first with 37 percent, followed by Poe with 21 percent and Roxas with 19 percent.

P76M released to build 4 Visayas fish ports

THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released P76 million to the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) for the creation of four fish ports across the country in order to boost the livelihood and food security of fishing communities.

Budget Secretary Florencio Abad said the latest release forms part of the P480-million fund—of which a total of P289 million has already been released as of November 24 of this year—allocated to DA-BFAR and sourced from the 2014 National Budget.
