DETAINED Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, who is facing plunder and graft charges for his alleged involvement in the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam, underwent another medical check-up at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Monday.

Enrile, onboard a police ambulance and escorted by personnel from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), left the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNP-GH) in Camp Crame in Quezon City around 7 a.m.

Earlier, the Sandiganbayan third division, which hears the senator's motion for hospital arrest, ordered a medical team from the PGH to examine his condition and send their recommendation if a hospital arrest is necessary for the accused.

However, the court also directed the PNP to bring Enrile to the PGH for further check-up.

On July 4, the third division ordered the arrest of Enrile after it found probable cause on the multi-million peso plunder charge against the senator. Enrile was accused of funneling his PDAF to the fake on-government organizations of businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles.

However, due to the aging senator's frail condition, he was temporarily committed at the PNP-GH for close monitoring of his health condition.

Dennis Pulma, division clerk of the court, said Enrile was supposed to be back at the PNP-GH on Monday afternoon as he will only undergo outpatient procedure. (Sunnex)
