CEBU CITY -- Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy and the town's fisherfolk filed on Thursday a P225-million suit against two shipping firms whose vessels collided off Talisay City in August last year and caused a massive oil spill in Cebu.

Aside from 2Go Group Inc. and Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corp., the Cordova Municipal Government and the fisherfolk also impleaded in the case the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Maritime Industry Authority, and Philippine Coast Guard.

In filing the case, the fisherfolk's lawyer Benjamin Cabreda Jr. said the three government agencies will be compelled to address their complaints.

The case was filed before the Regional Trial Court in Mandaue City and has been assigned to Special Environment Court Judge Mercedita Dadole Ygnacio. (Sunnex)
