Experience Kadayawan, fly high with Sun.Star

DAVAO CITY -- It's been months since Sun.Star's experiment with drone journalism started in Cebu.

Sun.Star, a network of community newspapers, was the first media company in Cebu, if not in the Philippines, to gather and report news using a remote controlled aerial vehicle popularly known as drone.

Its quadcopter, the aerial vehicle used in the coverage, flew in January this year to take photographs and videos of the mass of people at the street and fluvial processions during the Sinulog Festival. It also captured the situation the morning after a fire in Barangay Lorega, Cebu City in March. Eyes were again in the air when Sun.Star's quadcopter hovered on Bantayan Island during the Holy Week in April. It even showed scenes from Bohol and Tacloban City six months after the 7.2-magnitude quake and Typhoon Yolanda that devastated these areas, respectively.

Sun.Star's drones also conquered sports, as they brought scenes from the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines, one of the biggest sporting events in Cebu's history held early this month.

Today, the aim to gather and present information in a way that is humanly impossible for journalists unless they charter a helicopter to take aerial shots continues, as Sun.Star, for the first time, will fly drones over Davao City to capture the Kadayawan.

Catch the participants in this year's Indak-indak sa Dalan and Pamulak or floral float parade as they hit the streets Saturday (August 16) and Sunday (August 17), respectively, as Sun.Star will bring all the actions from some parade routes live as they happen.

Watch the live stream at www.sunstar.com.ph or go to Sun.Star Davao's microsite at http://davao.sunstar.com.ph/kadayawan/.

Sun.Star once again partners with Smart Communications Inc., with its live streaming made possible with Smart’s fourth generation technology, the Long Term Evolution (LTE).

This is the third time Sun.Star will be streaming live the Kadayawan events, bringing the activities to the world on real-time. It is the only media outfit that is streaming live Kadayawan activities in their entirety. (LMY/With Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
