Sick OFW in Oman needs help-A A +A
Monday, August 18, 2014
AN UPLOADED photo of a sick overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Oman went viral in social media after a Facebook user shared it on his account last August 15.
Facebook user Mhonrey Garcia said that Bernabe Ramon Jr. is suffering from tuberculosis meningitis and has been confined in a hospital in Oman.
A patient who is diagnosed with TB meningitis experiences severe headache, dislike of bright light, stiff neck, loss of appetite and tiredness.
The ailment requires hospital admission and close monitoring to assess the progression of the disease.
Garcia said they tried but failed to get financial assistance from some government officials.
“Many OFWs’ claims were unheard like in the case of Ako C. Bern, (or Bernabe Ramon Jr.), whose life in Oman is in danger,” Garcia said.
Garcia said they needed to pool money for Bernabe because the parents of the patient could not afford the medication.
“Please pray or him (Bernabe). We hope that many will give some monetary assistance for his early recuperation,” he added.
Social media users shared Garcia’s call.
“Hang on, Bernabe. We all pray for your recovery. Nothing is impossible with God,” a post said.
A Facebook user also said that Garcia should not worry because many wanted to extend help, especially those who are also working abroad.
The government should take necessary action to help the OFW in Oman because he would need money to recover from the disease, a post said.
Garcia’s status has been shared 2,728 times as of this posting. (Ruth Abbey Gita/Sunnex)
