VICE President Jejomar Binay should not make any allusion that the people surrounding President Benigno Aquino III were the ones instigating him to change the Constitution, including the provision on lifting the six-year single term of the president, a Palace official said Friday.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that it was Aquino himself who expressed openness for Charter change and to listen to his "bosses," the Filipino people, concerning the possibility of a term extension during an interview over TV5.

"So, I don't know who the Vice President is referring to but the President has already mentioned it openly -- very, very honest about his views on the Constitution. Very, very honest about his views on maintaining the checks and balance," he said in a press briefing.

"So I really don't know why the allusion is against the people surrounding the President when the President himself has already openly stated his views on the Constitution and the President cannot be dictated on," he added.

Binay, who openly expressed interest to run for president in 2016 polls, reportedly accused the people surrounding the President of provoking him to change the Charter and the possibility of seeking for re-election.

The Vice President did not mention any names, but Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II was quoted as saying that he would support a re-election bid of the President.

Roxas, who reportedly would be the administration's bet for president in 2016 should there be no re-election for Aquino, made the statement following the President's interview by TV5.

Lacierda said it was clear that with regard to term extension, the President was making consultations.

"Doon naman sa kanyang pahayag sa Cha-cha, ang kanyang tinitingnan ay itong pagkakaroon ng healthy balance between the three branches of government kasi nga ayon sa kanya, tila may pagka-judicial overreach ‘yung Korte Suprema. ‘Yon lang naman ang kanyang nasabi tungkol sa pag-amyenda sa Saligang Batas," he explained.
