Wednesday, August 27, 2014
THE Gov. M. Rosa Street inside the Cebu Capitol compound will be open to vehicular traffic starting 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, August 30, said Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora.
The road was opened to provide an alternative route for vehicles coming from N. Escario St. to M. Velez St., as road improvement and widening have been ongoing at a portion of Don Gil Garcia St. beside the Capitol in Cebu City.
The road work has been conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways and JJ & J Construction & Gen. Supply.
Engr. Alfred Tio, of the JJ & J Construction & Gen. Supply, said the road work is estimated to last for 24 days, as long as the project is not stalled by possible weather disturbances and other unforeseen events.
Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) head Joy Tumulak, meanwhile, assured that all of Governor Hilario Davide III's requests in connection with the use of the road inside the Capitol compound are granted.
The requests include: exclusive use for one-way light vehicle traffic of Gov. M. Rosa Street to M. Velez Street; deployment of Citom and police officers from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; opening of Capitol gates from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; no loading and unloading of passengers inside the Capitol compound; no blowing of horns; observance of 15 kilometers per hour speed limit; and posting of corresponding traffics signs to this effect.
The Provincial Government, in its website, advised vehicles bound for Fuente Osmeña coming from Guadalupe and Banawa to take the V. Rama Avenue to B. Rodriguez Street route.
It said a dry-run of the traffic re-routing will be held on Friday, August 29. (Edwin Joseph Catañeda/Sunnex)
