MANILA -- A cloud cluster in east of Mindanao has intensified into a low pressure area (LPA), bringing moderate rains in most parts of the country, the state weather bureau reported Thursday.

As of 10:30 a.m. Thursday, the LPA was spotted at 190 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

In an interview, Meno Mendoza of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA has a slim chance to become a tropical depression as it is still projected to bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains over Western and Central Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula.

Mendoza said that due to the trough of extended cloudiness of the LPA, Metro Manila and the regions of Central Luzon, Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Weather forecaster Fernando Cada said the cloud bands of the potential cyclone is expected to disorganize in the next few days because the LPA is already nearing landmass.

Pagasa earlier reported that it is expecting three to four storms to visit the Philippines in September.

The next tropical cyclone that will enter the country will be named “Kanor." (PNA/Sunnex)
