POLICE shot dead a man who held his one-year-old grandchild hostage in Binan City, Laguna, on Saturday morning.

Hostage-taker Romy Sulayao, 50, borrowed the child to his parents for a jog outside the family's home located at Barangay Timabi. However, Sulayao climbed on the roof of the house and brought with him the child.

The one-hour negotiation between the suspect and the police failed causing the victim to become violent.

Sulayao died on the spot after being shot by the police while the child was unharmed and safely returned to the parents.

Police said Sulayao said he had family problem, particularly on his wife.

Investigation was ongoing as of posting. (Sunnex)
