THE camp of lawyer Jessica Lucila "Gigi" Reyes has asked the Sandiganbayan for her to be allowed to undergo medical check-up due to a suspected head injury she sustained when she suffered an anxiety attack inside her prison cell at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

In a motion filed before the Sandiganbayan third division, Reyes' legal team sought the court's permission to allow her to undergo Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Angiogram (MRA) after she accidentally bumped her head into a wall of her detention cell when she suffered anxiety attack last August 17.

"On 17 August 2014, after manifesting intermittent spasms of her right eyelid and cheek as well as noticing a progressive lurring in her speech and a slight deposit of saliva on her right lip, accused Reyes requested Dr. Martesio Perez, a neurologist at the Makati Medical Center to visit and examine her at the Taguig City Jail at Camp Bagong Diwa," the motion read.

After his assessment, Perez said the former chief-of-staff of detained Senate Minority Floor Leader Juan Ponce Enrile suffered a "right hemi facial spasm" caused by "pressure on the facial nerve by a tumor or an artery" and recommended her to undergo an MRI and MRA at as well as to have a check-up with Dr. Willy Lopez.

Reyes is a co-accused of Enrile in his plunder and graft charges over the alleged misuse of Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).

Meanwhile, the Sandiganbayan third division summoned the director of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) to testify Wednesday afternoon on the medical condition of Enrile.

The anti-graft court issued a subpoena ad testificandum to compel PGH Director Dr. Jose Gonzales and other medical practitioners who checked the 91-year-old senator to appear in the hearing.

"You are hereby commanded to appear before the Sandiganbayan, third division, on the fourth day of September, 2014, at 1:30 in the afternoon to be present at the hearing, then and there to testify in the above-entitled case pending therein. Fail not under penalty of law," the subpoena said.

Enrile has been staying at the Philippine National Police General Hospital at Camp Crame, Quezon City, while waiting for the court's ruling on his petition to be placed under hospital arrest.

Earlier, the anti-graft court asked the doctors to determine the physical health status of Enrile. (Sunnex)
