QATAR had recently taken the ice bucket challenge and nominated the Philippines to accumulate donations for the Amytrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients.
Project Awesome Philippines, in response of the nationwide ice bucket challenge, invites all the Filipinos to join and set a world record.
"We've been challenged by Qatar for a nationwide ice bucket challenge! We'll answer the call. Join as we set a world record to spread the awareness of ALS," the group said.
The group set the Philippines' ice bucket challenge at the football field of Quezon City Memorial Circle in Quezon City on September 7 at 3 p.m.
"This is a free activity. Anyone can join – students, families," Project Awesome Philippines said.
"Bring your bucket in the event. We'll provide the water and the ice tubes," the group added, reminding the participants that salt water from Zambales beach will be used to avoid waste.
Project Awesome Philippines also said they were accepting donations for ALS patients in the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
Netizens were thrilled on the incoming ice bucket challenge commenced by the group and talked about it on social media using the hashtag #icebucketph.
"Philippines is taking on the challenge. Join for free and help spread awareness," a post said.
Meanwhile, some believed that Philippines being on the eighth rank to advocate the awareness on the rare disease is already enough.
"I wouldn't waste my time just to waste water. There's nothing wrong with the purpose of this 'ice bucket challenge' but I don't think it should be prioritized," a female netizen said.
"There are bigger and more important problems needed to be prioritized than this," she added. (Sunnex)
