ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Two persons were killed while 12 others were wounded when a passenger jeepney crashed into a concrete post and fell on its side after it sideswiped a motorcycle along a highway in this city.
Zamboanga City Police Director Angelito Casimiro said the accident took place around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday in the village of Pasobolong.
Romualdo Apolinario, 39, and Poul Atilano, 14, of Salaan and Culianan villages, respectively, died in the incident.
Wounded were Liezel Eijanantos, 21; Carlos Perez, 50; Rosie Manalo, 34; Princess Abigail Badjang, 26; Lowel Falcasantos, 21; Renmar Atilano, 17; Rolando Balan, 42; Denmark Cuevas, 21; Ting Salazar, 48; Vincent Rago, 18; Alejandro Rivas, 28; and Josie Fernandez.
The jeepney driver, John Michael Fabian, 23, was unscathed. The police detained him.
Investigation revealed that the passenger jeepney was headed to the city center from Barangay Lanzones when Fabian lost control of the steering wheel after he switched lane and sideswiped a motorcycle driven by Rago.
The jeep slumped on a concrete street light control post and fell on its side, killing Apolinario on the spot and injuring the other passengers, Casimiro said. (Sunnex)
