9 missing, 12 hurt in Tuguegarao hotel fire

POLICE said a fire tore through a budget hotel in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan province, injuring 12 nursing students and leaving nine missing.
The Cagayan province police chief said the fire started around 1 a.m. Sunday on the ground floor of the five-story hotel and raged for five hours before being put out by firefighters.
Senior Superintendent Mao Aplasca said many guests at the Bed and Breakfast Pension House along the Mabini and Luna Street in Tuguegarao City were nursing students who planned to take a licensing exam in the city on Sunday.
At least 12 were taken to hospitals with minor burns. Firefighters were able to enter the gutted building in midmorning to search for the nine reported missing by their friends.
It was not yet known on what caused the fire.
