THE Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced on Friday that 1,684 out of 2,137 passed the August 2012 Physician board examination.
The Physician (Complete, Finals with Prelims and Finals) Licensure Examination was given by the Board of Medicine in the cities of Manila, Cebu and Davao this August 2012.

MANILA -- Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Friday spotted a low pressure area (LPA) nearing Northern Mindanao.
But Pagasa weather forecaster was quick to say that the LPA still did not pose any threat since it was still too far from the country as of Friday afternoon.

MATI CITY -- A landslide occurred in a gold-rush area in the boundaries of Mati City and Tarragona in Davao Oriental Thursday evening, trapping at least 20 people inside the tunnels.
Herminia Miones, Don Salvador Mandaya tribal chieftain, said the landslide happened in Sitio Bangol where about 7,000 small-scale miners are operating.

But sources are giving different counts from just one to up to 50 possible casualties.

MANILA -- A son of former President Joseph Estrada said the appointment of Secretary Manuel "Mar" Roxas II as the new head of the Department of Interior and Local Government is "obviously" a preparation for the 2013 midterm polls.
President Benigno Aquino III on Friday announced the appointment of Roxas as the successor to the late Secretary Jesse Robredo who died in a tragic plane crash last August 18.

MANILA (Updated 2:35 p.m.) -- The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) disproved claims that the ill-fated plane boarded by Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo was not cleared for chartered flight and that the pilot's licenses were expired.
Caap director general William Hotchkiss III said based on their Civil Aviation Safety Oversight Reporting and Tracking System (Casort) database, the Piper Seneca plane that carried Robredo and was piloted by Captain Jessup Bahinting has an air taxi license valid until November 14, 2012.

Aquino's announcement was aired through state-run PTV-4.

MANILA (Updated 12:49 p.m.) -- Confusion stirred by two different asset statements of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has pushed the Supreme Court on Friday to admit that it released an incorrect version of the magistrate's net worth in 2011.
In the statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) provided by the Supreme Court Public Information Office, Sereno's net worth last year was at P17,985,375.51, slightly lower than the P18,029,575 earlier tipped to reporters.

MANILA -- The operator of the Light Rail Transit Line (LRT) 1 train that hit and killed a woman who jumped into the railway tracks is now facing criminal charges, authorities said.
In a phone interview, the Pasay Police Investigation Division confirmed that charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide have been filed against Anthony Gunay, 35, operator of the LRT train.

MANILA -- Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has no intention to shy away from media as she takes her role of leading reforms in the judiciary, a lawyer said Friday.
"The 'dignified silence' in the Supreme Court imposed by the newly appointed Chief Justice should be respected by the public, most especially by the officials and employees of the Judicial Department," election lawyer Romulo Macalintal said.
