MANILA -- Amid the allegations of corruption against the military, two legislators move to meddle into the budget allocated for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Paranaque Representative Roilo Golez filed a House resolution urging that 20 percent of the AFP's budget for personnel services be realigned for additional allowances for its personnel and for pension differential arrearages amounting to P16 billion.
Muntinlupa Representative Rodolfo Biazon meanwhile filed a resolution to conduct an inquiry, in aid of legislation, on the alleged conversion of personnel services funds of the Department of National Defense (DND)-AFP.
According to Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares, the discrepancies in the budget of the DND amounted to P 180 billion for personnel services alone from 2002 to 2010 under the term of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
