New witness in Lacson case ‘publicity stunt’

MANILA -- The camp of Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday described the appearance of a new witness implicating his client in the Dacer-Corbito murder case as a publicity stunt.
Alex Poblador, Lacson’s lawyer, said the new witness shows that the case against the senator is weak and is “a tacit admission that a reinvestigation is necessary”.
“After admitting his client did not know about the Dacer-Corbito case until after the fact, which in effect discredited (former senior superintendent Cezar) Mancao's testimony, (lawyer Ferdinand) Topacio now attempts to make amends by producing still another supposed witness to support and ensure daily publicity for his client,” said Poblador.
Topacio and Mancao submitted a sworn affidavit from an unnamed witness to the Department of Justice Monday.
They said the affidavit would bolster Mancao's testimony that he heard Lacson order publicist Salvador "Bubby" Dacer killed in 2000. (Jonathan de Santos/Sunnex)
