Seniors to enjoy 5% power, water bill discount
-A A +AThursday, January 6, 2011
SENIOR citizens will enjoy a five-percent discount in their electricity and water bills as mandated by the expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.
According to a television report, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) passed a resolution adopting the rules on the implementation of the five-percent discounts.
The commission will likely publish the rules either within the week or early next week.
The rules will take effect 15 days after the publication.
A senior citizen will enjoy the electricity discount as long the bill was registered under his or her name for at least a year and whose household used 100 kilowatt-hours or less.
The Manila Water Company (Maynilad) has also started providing the discount to qualified holders as early as October 2010.
Those qualified for the discount are those with Maynilad connection classified under the residential or semi-business category, registered in the name of the senior citizen, and with monthly basic consumption of not more than 30 cubic meters. (Sunnex)
