Sports scribes to honor college basketball stars

MANILA – Shakers and new discoveries during the action-packed collegiate basketball season will be feted anew as the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps hold its annual Collegiate Basketball Awards on January 17 at Gateway Suites in Quezon City.
Deserving to take spots in this year’s Mythical Five are Far Eastern University’s RR Garcia, San Beda’s Sudan Daniel, Ateneo’s Kirk Long, FEU’s Aldrech Ramos and San Sebastian’s Calvin Abueva.
The five were selected by a group of scribes covering both the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) during their respective basketball tournaments from June to October 2010.
Set to be awarded as well are three-time champion Norman Black (UAAP Coach of the Year), San Beda’s Frankie Lim (NCAA Coach of the Year), Ateneo’s Ryan Buenafe and San Beda’s Garvo Lanete (Pivotal Player Awards) in the list of winners of this event presented by Smart.
This annual awards night, also supported by ACCEL, 316, FilOil, Terrilicious, Gatorade, San Miguel Corporation and the Philippine Sportswriters Association, will start at 7 p.m. at the Topaz 1 Room of the Gateway Suites. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
