South Korea to halt Iran oil imports from July 1
Tuesday, June 26, 2012 - 03:25 p.m.SEOUL, South Korea — South Korea said Tuesday it will halt oil imports from Iran starting next month due to a European Union ban on insuring shipments of Iranian crude.
The insurance ban, which is part of broader EU sanctions aimed at cutting the sources of finance for Iran's nuclear program, makes it impossible for South Korean companies to ship Iranian crude as they rely on EU companies to insure the shipments.
Director Mario O'Hara dies of leukemia

O'Hara was confined at San Juan de Dios hospital in Pasay City last June 20 and underwent chemotherapy for his illness.

Shell, Eastern Petroleum cut prices anew

Major oil player Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. and independent player Eastern Petroleum Philippines cut their respective prices of premium gasoline (including unleaded) by P1.80 per liter, regular gasoline by P1.40 per liter and diesel and kerosene by P1 per liter, effective 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.
Arroyo seeks revenue allotment share for 300 new barangays
Tuesday, June 26, 2012 - 12:38 p.m.MANILA -- Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo filed a bill seeking amendments to the Local Government Code, which will allow 300 new barangays (villages) to get their full share of the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).
The Local Government Code of 1991 or Republic Act 7160 ascertains the share of the local government units in the IRA and defines the terms of IRA sharing.

China urged to safeguard refugees from Myanmar
Tuesday, June 26, 2012 - 12:12 p.m.BANGKOK — A human rights organization is warning that as many as 10,000 ethnic Kachin refugees from Myanmar are facing food and water shortages and inadequate sanitation at makeshift camps in China.
New York-based Human Rights Watch says in a report Tuesday that the refugees in Yunnan province also are at risk of being returned to a combat zone. It urges the Chinese government to give them temporary protection and permit the U.N. and humanitarian agencies free access to them.
Asia stocks down after Spain asks for bank bailout
