Pampanga: 2 ‘robbers’ killed in shootout (10:19 p.m.)
TWO members of the robbery group Baliti Gang were killed after they engaged Arayat and Pampanga Provincial Mobile Group policemen in a shootout in Barangay Baliti in the town Sunday night.
Pampanga Police Provincial Director Keith Ernald Singian identified the fatalities as Virgilio Oronce and Dennis Bungke, both residents in the area.
Their colleagues in the group — Jose Macasaquit, Jonel Ocampo, Benedicto Cuson, Wilmark Pineda, Bernie Martin, Harrison de Leon, and a 16-year-old boy — were arrested after the gunfight.
The suspects are alleged members of the group responsible for a series of robbery-holdups and carjackings in the area. (Marna H. Dagumboy of Sun.Star Pampanga)

My first cousin, Virgilio Oronce is definitely not a robber and holdupper! We seek justice for our slain relative. The oronces are not robbers and holduppers in pampanga. We pray for justice for Virgilio Oronce. We pray for a re-investigation of his case. He is a good family man.
My Uncle, Virgilio Oronce is a good man, he is not a criminal. We are appealing the case to prove the innocence of my Uncle Virgilio. My Uncle was issued a search warrant not a shoot to kill order, However He was shot to death while he is handcuffed at the presence of his 9 year old daughter and his wife and there was no exchange of gun fire as they have earlier claimed. After which the police deliberately planted guns, grenades and other paraphernalias. No one is above the law and any suspect is considered innocent until proven guilty. They have taken away the right of my Uncle for a fair trial. We are asking for justice for this inhumane act committed against our relative.
Virgilio Oronce was already handcuffed when he was shot by policemen. Every citizen of this country has the right to counsel and fair trial. Every suspect is presumed innocent unless proven otherwise. We vehemently deny all accusations against him. We still pray that justice will prevail so that we could clear his name. We also pray that all responsible for his death will be charged in the proper courts.
How could they accuse my brother as holdupper and a robber when they dont have any evidence? They don’t have any proof, yet they executed him for crimes he himself didn’t commit. They killed my brother in the most heartless, ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading way. Is that fair? Is that what they called “fair justice”? But let’s say they do have evidence, is it fair enough to kill him? They dont have any right to do that! It seems that he’d paid too much. Isn’t it our aim should be rehabilitation, not retribution? What is the point of killing another person? Have they learn’t anything, or been given the chance to change? Killing an innocent people because of wrong accusations, without giving him a chance to prove himself as a worthy member of society devalues the respect we place on human life.
We believe that he deserves to have a fair hearing. The justice itself seems to lose it’s credibility. We are not questioning their ability but the authorities have certainly failed in their duties and betrayed their responsibilities. They have violated my brother’s right to life and his right to be presumed innocent & treated as innocent, until & unless they are convicted according to law in the course of proceedings which meet at least the minimum prescribed requirements of fairness. So, we are seeking for justice, hoping that our government will do something for this unfair cruelty against my brother Virgilio. We know that we will be having a hard time seeking for justice but we are not giving up. We are not losing hope that someday, in one way or another, they will going to pay what they’ve done to him and that he will get the justice he deserves. It may not be today nor in this world, but we know that it will be given to him someday in the next world. We may either win or lose, but we will never stop grieving for my brother. The wounds in our hearts may be healed, but the scar will be left forever.
Why don’t you, as reporters, go out and interview the people in the community where he lived and they will tell you what type of person Virgilio was. why don’t you interview the people that have filed the grievances against him saying that he was a known criminal? You will find that that is an impossible task because he was a well respected individual in his community. Why don’t you publish the words of the eye witnesses? Why don’t you take a stand against the obvious corruption going on, and print the full story instead of the un-truths provided to you by the so called “law enforcement”, that are trying to cover up their corrupt dealings by pinning the blame on an innocent man? And finally, why don’t you print what is right? Be a real newspaper, and get the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Virgilio Oronce was a good man who was killed for crimes he was wrongly accused. He was a proud man who loved his family and friends and was the kind of man who cared about people around him and would do anything in his capaciy to help others in need. I do not believe what is said in this article and I pray that justice will prevail.
Media must be there to keep the flames of justice burning by reminding society that every (human rights violation) victim’s story deserves to be heard. JUSTICE FOR VIRGILIO ORONCE JR! JUSTICE FOR ALL HUMAN RIGHTS VICTIMS!
At my cousin’s funeral there were so many people that the church was unable to accommodate everyone that wanted to pay their respects to him. The whole community was there to grieve with our family. Now tell me, if my cousin was a criminal, would all these people go there to visit him? As stated by the Arayat and Pampanga Provincial Mobile Group policemen, he was a known “holdupper” and “carjacker” in the area. If this was true, why would so many people be at his grave? Think about it. Do some reasoning, use some common sense. This wasn’t a shootout between a gang member and the police. This was a murder between a man and the police that had something to hide. Obviously they are trying to hide something serious or they would not of gone to this extent.
I’m taking this quote from my niece who took it from Albert Einstein:
“The world is a dangerous place. Not
because of the people who are evil;
but because of the people who don’t do
anything about it.”
My son who is in college is writing about Human Rights abuses in the Philippines. He is very active in US politics also but he remembers where he was from, his family from the Philippines. His Filipino Association lobbies US lawmakers about Human Rights abuses. It didn’t dawn on him till it hits home. His Uncle being summarily executed and he asked me” Dad, why is this happening?” Can you answer this question? because I could not.
This is obviously a case of an extrajudicial killing, which is an execution that occurs before due process is delivered. These types of killings are executed by local law enforcement, the PNP, and Army as a way of removing anybody even suspected as a member of a gang, leftist political organization, or any group the government blacklists. They would rather remove all suspects quickly rather than go through the judicial system.
Taken from an essay I wrote on the contemporary Philippine issues:
On a social level, the Philippines continue to struggle over the same issues it did during the entirety of the 20th century. The fight over class equality remains ever prevalent in a country with a 40% poverty rate and 7.9% unemployment rate [3]. Populists who garner the support of the working class are allegedly targets of the government. Those who push for reform over the system, including journalists, are victims of extrajudicial killings. During the period of May and June 2006 for example, at least 18 members of the leftist umbrella group, Movement for National Democracy (KPD) have been assassinated [4]. The umbrella includes “trade unions, farmers’ and fishermen’s organizations, and women’s and youth groupsâ€; all having in common their goal to challenge the status quo of Philippine society [4]. Many speculate the military is behind the numerous assaults with Major-General Jovito Palpan even saying that “the extrajudicial killings are ‘helping’ the armed forces of the Philippines get rid of those who instigate people to fight against the government†[4]. The major-general is the commander in a province known for the disappearance and murder of numerous activists. Unfortunately, these killings occur with perpetrators escaping on motorcycle and never being discovered or prosecuted [5]. This alarming pattern of politically-motivated assassinations has even led Amnesty International to recognize the Philippines for these heinous acts [5]. The trend of assassinations illustrates the struggle the country faces in perfecting its democracy. The government reassures the world that its people have freedom and self-determination yet those who work to perfect the democracy are killed.
Evidences to presented at the proper forum will prove that there was no shootout between Virgilio Oronce Jr. and the policemen. Law enforcers supposedly tasked to serve the search warrant were in bonnets. What are they hiding? their faces? Only in the Philippines! So many violations were committed in serving this search warrant. They handcuffed Virgilio Oronce Jr. and Dennis Bungke shot them. They summarily executed Virgilio Oronce Jr. in the presence of his wife and children. They were robbed of their belongings. Money, jewelries, celfone, and even clothes were lost in the process. Where can we get justice if the supposed to be protectors of the people become executioners? How can we explain the presence of many people in the wake and burial of this kindhearted man? Please tell me.
The killing of Virgilio Oronce, serves as an example of how unprofessional, uneducated most of our “lawmen”can be. Sadly, it was also a great example of why our country and it’s people are being look down at.
What happen to innocent, until proven guilty!Where is the justice in this inhumane act that was done to my brother? Who pays for this? Is the government going to make this law enforcement officers pay for the most barbaric and most despicable act committed againts a human being whose main concern was to help and make a difference in everyone’s life? Is everyone afraid to go againts these crooked cops that are destroying the lives of the very people that they are supposed to serve and protect? Who is going to be held responsible ? Who are we againts? Are we going to live in fear all our lives? How are we to survive this greatest tragedy of our entire existence? My brother is a very good man. He never turned down anybody who needed help. I myself just found out how good my brother was. He never brag about anything. During his wake, different people approached us and told stories of how my brother has touched their lives. He’s taken a woman who was hemmorhaging to the hospital and paid for her hopitalization. This woman was turned down by the barangay captain himself. A family of four was taken in by my brother and lived w/ them for 3 months without paying a single dime. A woman was given a whole pig by my brother who didn’t have anything to serve the people who were there for her son’s funeral. Several men and kids were ready to do battle with the police who were holding my brother’s body for 8 hours. These are the men and kids that my brother took care of, when nobody wanted to take them in. Is this the leader of the carnappers and highjackers? A man that was loved by everybody who’d known him! What has happened to our society? An innocent man was executed and violently murdered in front of his family . Are we just going to stand there and do nothing? No! We have to fight! I want justice for my brother!
http://youtube.com/henrygonzales TRY THIS LINK. This is the video of the burial of my late cousin, Virgilio Oronce Jr., whom police executed and accused wrongly. You would clearly see the many people who loved and cared for him till the very end.
If our Uncle Ogie is a criminal why doesn’t he have all the luxuries of a rich person? No mansion, No cars, No army of goons and not even a large amount of money left for his grieving family. It doesn’t take a genius to know that our Uncle is all but a simple family man. All he has is a humble home, a fews hogs and a good heart. He was brutally murdered by those coldhearted policemen, they are the same people who are suppose to protect and serve the people. I have been used to seeing in the news people being killed by killers but never have I realized that the people who should be protecting us are the same people who are violating the same rules they are suppose to enforce. It makes me wonder if the crime committed against my Uncle is an act of abuse of power and it does bother me how many of these cases happen everyday and is there something being done or maybe not, who would dare
go against the men in power? Who will police the police?
Virgilio Oronce Jr. must have been a big threat to the police of Pampanga. A big threat to what? This is where investigative reporting comes in. Ogie was a very simple man.He lived so poorly. he didn’t even have any furniture in his house. Is this the way a leader of highjackers, carnappers and drug dealers is supposed to live? Common, where are these polices’ brains? If you are making something up ,make it believable. I got to spend time with Ogie this last time I went home w/ my family in June. Thinking back of the way he was w/ his kids and the rest of the family makes my heart ache for everyone. He was a good man who kidded around a lot esp. around his sisters. My wife was very close to him, she always had him around everywhere we went and even when we were just staying home watching T.V. HE WAS VERY HAPPY JUST TO BE AROUND US. For the life of me, I was shellshocked when I heard about what happened to him ! I was outraged ! I still am. For him to be killed the way he did and to be accused of those crimes he did not commit is just beyond me. Being an American, I must live a very sheltered life. Nobody deserves to die the way Virgilio Oronce Jr. died. I am not familiar w/ the way the Phil. government works but I hope these despicable men are punished. They are a disgrace to the entire police force in the Phil and around the world! They are the reason why people do not trust authorities. They are the reason why the Phil. is the way it is now. I hope the President Of the Phil. will open her eyes to the injustice that was done to an innocent man by the same people who are working under her government. My family demands justice for Virgilio Oronce Jr.
The barbaric execution of Virgilio Oronce Jr. is a clear evidence of police brutality and cover-up. This is the worst tragedy in one’s lifetime. what’s even worse tragedy is if the Phil. government is not going to do anything about it and let these despicable men hiding behind their uniforms get away with it!
i am a 10-year-old niece of VIRGILIO ORONCE JR. i know for a fact that my uncle was not a robber or a holdupper. he was a kind man who loved his family. i spent a lot of time with him when i was in the Philippines. he was funny and he always made me laugh. what i don’t understand is how a simple person like my uncle could be targeted by the police. why was he such a big threat to the police? as far as i know the police are supposed to be our friends and our protectors. i didn’t realize that they are cold-blooded killers. what has happened to upholding the law when the police themselves are the ones who are breaking the law.i want justice for my uncle and my cousins! who is going to punish these police who killed my uncle? I demand an answer!
I am an outraged 12 year old who is greiving for the brutal murder of my kind and caring uncle, Virgilio (oggie) Oronce Jr. My uncle did not deserve a death such as this! He had little money and yet he was willing to give money to anyone who needed it! The police are despicable for what they have done! My uncle oggie was a man who take care of his family, friends and community the best he could! He was kind and never mean…i was just recently visiting my uncle in the philippines he was loving and always joking around trying to make our stay more pleasurable! And now the cops have ended his life! His life was short but good! He was a man who deserved a life as long as 100 or longer! I think of him as the Jose Rizal of our time! He was not a car theft a drug dealer or any of those horrible things he was accused of! He helped everyone he knew as if he didnt need the money or help! Do u think a man such as this deserves wat happened to him NO! Now my cousins are left without the awesome father they had! My aunt is without her loving husband! I DEMAND JUSTICE FOR MY UNCLE AND MY FAMILY! MY WHOLE FAMILY DEMANDS JUSTICE! I think getting to meet my uncle Virgilio Oronce Jr, was an honor and a privelage!
My uncle is a good man not a criminal. Let us all pray for his soul. Let Us all pray for his family.
Summary execution is prohibited under the
Constitution of the Philippines more particularly
under Section 1, Art. III thereof, which provides:
“No person shall be deprived of life, liberty or
property without due process of law nor shall any
person be denied the equal protection of the laws.”
Summary execution is also violative of human
rights and against a state policy provided by the
Philippine Constitution more particularly Sec. 11 of
Article II thereof which provides:
“The State values the dignity of every human person
and guarantees full respect for human rights.”
The international human rights community
calls upon all nations signatory to the International
Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to adhere to
the protection of human life more particularly Article
6, Section 1 of the convention which reads:
“Every human being has the right to life . This right
shall be protected by law. No one shall be deprived of
his life.
Virgilio Oronce’s life is as important as any human being. He could have enjoyed the right to life! But he did not. They should have respected his dignity and his human rights. But sadly again, THEY DID NOT!
Virgilio Oronce Jr. was my nephew who I regret very much of not having the opportunity to get know him more while he was alive. Ogie was brutally executed by the police of Pampanga in a most inhumane way possible. What had become of our country? Our p0olice officers? Our government? Who can we trust now? Who is going to protect us, our people, the little people? I was shocked and felt outraged and violated! Actually I’m madder than hell! I feel so ashame that this type of crime still goes on in our country. He was accused of robbery, carnapping and drug dealing, can anyone explain to me how my nephew who supposedly robbed, carnapped and sold drugs could have lived so poorly? His household did not even have furnishings. I was touched when I learned that one of Ogie’s daughter graduated from school, and for graduation gift she asked one of her aunts if she can have an electric fan. It makes you wonder doesn’t it? Why would a young lady ask for an electric fan for a gift, why not ask for some clothes or shoes? Then we realized that they didn’t have much. That was when together, our family decided to help him and his family. He was a very simple man. It didn’t take much to please him. Ogie was an honorable man. For those people who wondered where Ogie got the money to fix his ceiling, that money was sent to him from the States. His sister came home last June and also helped him. For the group who is investigating the crime that was committed against my nephew, we implore upon you to please bring the people responsible for Ogie’s senseless death to justice. Our family awaits justice. Lastly, Ogie was well loved by his family, friends and by his township!

Dance with my father
BACK WHEN I WAS A CHILD
BEFORE LIFE REMOVES ALL THE INNOCENCE
MY FATHER WOULD LIFT ME HIGH
AND DANCE WITH MY MOTHER AND ME AND THEN
SPIN ME AROUND ‘TIL I FELL ASLEEP
THEN UP THE STAIRS HE WOULD CARRY ME
AND I KNEW FOR SURE I WAS LOVE
IF I COULD HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE
ANOTHER WALK ANOTHER DANCE WITH HIM
I’LL PLAY A SONG THAT WOULD NEVER EVER END
CAUSE I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
TO DANCE WIT MY FATHER AGAIN
WHEN I AND MY MOTHER WOULD DISAGREE
TO GET MY WAY I WOULD RUN FROM HER TO HIM
HE MAKES ME LAUGH JUST TO COMFORT ME
THEN FINALLY MAKE ME DO JUST WHAT MY MAMA SAID
LATER THAT NIGHT WHEN I WAS ASLEEP
HE LEFT A DOLLAR UNDER MY SHEET
NEVER DREAM THAT HE WOULD BE GONE FROM ME
IF I COULD STEAL ONE FINAL GLANCE
ONE FINAL STEP ONE FINAL DANCE WITH HIM
I’LL PLAY A SONG THAT WOULD NEVER EVER END
HOW I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
TO DANCE WITH MY FATHER AGAIN
SOMETIMES I8 LISTEN OUTSIDE HER DOOR
AND I HEAR HOW MY MOTHER CRIES FOR HIM
I PRAY FOR HER EVEN MORE THAN ME
I PRAY FOR HER EVEN MORE THAN ME
I KNOW I’M PRAYING FOR MUCH TOO MUCH
BUT COULD YOU SEND BACK THE ONLY MAN SHE LOVES
I KNOW YOU DON’T DO IT USUALLY
BUT DEAR LORD SHE’S DYING
TO DANCE WITH MY FATHER AGAIN
EVERY NIGHT I FALL ASLEEP
AND THIS IS ALL I EVER DREAM

Children need a Daddy
For many, many things:
Like holding them high off the ground
Where the sunlight sings!
Like being the deep music
That tells them all is right
When they awaken frantic with
The terrors of the night.
Like being the great mountain
That rises in their hearts
And shows them how they might get home
When all else falls apart.
Like giving them the love
That is their sea and air,
So diving deep or soaring high
They’ll always find him there
Even though we’ve lived apart,
I do not love you less.
There’s provision in the heart
For storing tenderness.
There’s a love that like a star
Must reconfigure space
To turn the far-flung wanderers
Towards some predestined grace.
Time matters not, nor pain, nor death,
Nor fate as hard as stone.
This truth needs but a single breath,
And that we now have known.
Ah, Father! What a joy to live
With love at last expressed!
Life has no greater gift to give
Than that with which we’re blessed
You have to be heartless not to be affected by all the comments made pertaining to the death of Virgilio Oronce Jr. What the police did was unforgivable! They did not consider that the man they executed was a man who is well loved by his friends, neighbors, and most especially his family. His family who at this moment is being threatened by the same people who killed him. Did you know this? Have you no pity? These kids already lost their father…. Haven’t they suffered enough? Is anybody paying attention? How many more lives are going to be sacrificed and ruined before any body does anything? So many unanswered questions….. and yet, nobody is searching for the answer.
Where is the justice ????Those Policemen who killed Virgilio Oronce Jr. need to be punished and executed for what they have done to him and to his family. It was a big mistake to accused him without any proof.I’ve known him for years and he was a family man….good provider and loving father. It is sad to say that higher officials in the Philippines killed this innocent people. What kind of govenment do you have???? How may more innocent people that you will kill?Time will come that justice will prevail…
Kuya Ogie, this poem is for you..
“Only The Best”
You suffered much in silence,
Your spirit did not bend,
You faced your pain with courage
Until the very end.
I know you tried so hard to stay with us,
Cuz u love us and u dont wanna leave,
Your fight was not in vain,
God took you to His loving Home & freed you from your pain.
A heart of gold stopped beating,
two shining eyes at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove,
He only takes the best.
God knows you had to leave us,
but you did not go alone,
for part of us went with you,
the day He took you home.
To some you are forgotten,
to others just part of the past,
but to us who loved and lost you,
the memory will always last.
WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!

You’ve been everything to me: a father,
Teacher, playmate, model, conscience, friend.
Sometimes I’m not certain why you bother,
If your feelings on my words depend.
I know I haven’t been the child I should:
Far from it, and I really can’t say why.
I know exactly what I’d label good,
But in the real world something goes awry.
Underneath my actions there is love,
Gratitude, respect, and admiration.
Sometimes I don’t know what I’m thinking of,
But I thank God you’re in for the duration.
I’m sorry, sorry for the things I do,
But please believe I cherish you.
