Cebu: Arroyo okays transfer of Central Command to Mactan (3:50 p.m.)

CEBU CITY – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has approved the transfer of the Central Command headquarters from Lahug, Cebu City to Mactan Island in Lapu-Lapu City.

The headquarters occupies 80 hectares of prime business land owned by the Province of Cebu. Once the transfer is materialized the property will be reverted back to the Province of Cebu.

In exchange, the province will replicate the present structures inside the Central Command headquarters at the new location in Mactan.The President in her visit to Cebu City Friday morning turned over P25 million for the soldiers housing project of the Central Command. The fund will serve as the mobilization fund while another P25 million will be released separately for the construction of the housing structure.

The transfer to Mactan Island, Arroyo said is upon the recommendation of Armed Forces Chief of Staff Hermogenes Esperon.

The Central Command is composed of four component units, four combat support units and two combat service support units.  (Sunnex)
