ZAMBOANGA–Philippine Army troops have captured two gunmen believed to be communist New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in a pursuit operation in the hinterland of Zamboanga del Sur, a military official said Tuesday.

A soldier was wounded when the NPA rebels fought back the pursuing troops while being cornered in an area by advancing soldiers, said Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer Major Eugenio Batara Jr.

Batara said the rebels were captured on Sunday in Barangay Libayoy in the town of Tigbao.
He said the captured NPA members were part of the group that figured in a firefight with Army troops in the afternoon of Friday in the nearby town of Lakewood of the same province. (Sunnex)
