Senator seeks explanation on use of Arroyo’s intel funds (6:10 p.m.)

MANILA–Senator Chiz Escudero is asking Malacanang how the country’s intelligence fund was spent amid present talks and scare of terrorist attacks following the Glorietta 2 shopping mall blast.

Escudero said only half of the country’s intelligence fund is appropriated for 85 million Filipinos while the other half is for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo alone.

Escudero said the Office of the President alone receives P650 million for its intelligence fund, bigger than the combined intelligence funds of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Department of National Defense and the Philippine National Police.
Further, he said if the intelligence funds have been used “intelligently”, any criminal intent and acts could be anticipated enabling authorities to do what is necessary to stop them. (CPB/Sunnex)
