DepEd gives second chance for out-of-school youth (9:48 a.m.)
MANILA — To reach out to all kinds of learners — especially those outside the formal school system — the Department of Education (DepEd) annually administers two tests: the Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) Test and the Philippine Educational Placement Test (Pept).
The A&E Test is designed for out-of-school youth (OSY), drop-outs, and adult illiterates. It assesses the learners’ knowledge on basic life skills and functional literacy.
Functional literacy covers concepts and issues that learners encounter in day-to-day situations.
A&E comprises the following learning areas: Kasanayang Pangkomunikasyon sa Filipino, Kasanayang Pangkomunikasyon sa Ingles, Numerasi at Pang-agham, Kabuhayan at Likas na Yaman, at Pagpapalawak ng Pananaw. The test also gauges critical learning and problem solving skills.
Examinees should be at least eleven years old for the elementary level and fifteen years old for the secondary level.
Pept is open to learners who have dropped out of school for at least two years. It aims to get out-of-school learners back into the formal school system. It is designed for learners whose ages do not correspond to their grade or year level.
“These efforts are in line with our goal to provide quality education for all,” DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus said. “We are working hard to bring education to where the learners are,” he added.
Students who quit school because of unexpected circumstances are advised to take Pept to resume formal schooling.
Meanwhile, those who are over-aged may take the Pept to place them in the grade or year level of their age.
A&E examinees who successfully pass the test are presented a diploma which is equal to that of formal learning institutions.
“We highly encourage our out-of-school learners to avail themselves of these opportunities for out-of-school learning,” Lapus said.
He added: “Not having been able to finish school should not deter them from pursuing various job opportunities.” (Press release)
I am interested to take the test because I have goals in my life but it deters me to pursue because i was been a high school drop-out. Can I take the test yet in spite of not able to catch up with the scheduled examination day?. I’m 20 years of age and I did only attended 2nd year level of high school. nagtatanung na po kasi yung nag papaaral sakin. hindi namin alm kung mag eenrol ba ako ng high school baka kasi ilipat ako ng private kung hindi ako makaka pasa. baka kasi hindi ma refund yung ibabayad namin kung sakaling makapasa ako. plssss naman poh. kailangan na poh talaga.
